An Ode to Friendship – The Rachelorette Party

This past weekend was my bachelorette party, or as my sister cleverly named it, The Rachelorette Party. I had a blast, but something struck me harder than ever before. I love my friends so so much.

They all got along so well, and I heard multiple conversations where mutual excitement over a certain topic was shared. Books, writing, gaming, jobs, music, drink tastes — there were so many things each had in common. And the laughter! So much giggling and snorting and excited voices.

It brought me back to the best of girlhood. Those nights we’d be up till two in the morning talking about nothing in particular, laughing and sharing experiences. There were gripes about work, giggles about memes, and a circle of tarot readings. Friends from across the country made it in and those who couldn’t were desperately missed. New friends and old friends coming together and getting along had me smiling long after the party ended (I’m still smiling).

The Rachelorette was not about going out and partying. That’s really not my speed and hasn’t been since college (if that to be honest). Instead, we made custom scents for perfume, shopped in witchy crafty stores, ate delicious pasta, and had espresso martinis at a bookstore/cafe/bar. It was so very me. I loved every second of it.

To my wonderful sister, I love you very much. Thank you for taking on the role of organizer!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get a heating pad for my back and an extra strong coffee. Apparently, “partying” when you’re over 30 ends in days of back pain and catching up on the lost sleep. It was worth every minute.

So much love to all my friends and honorary sisters. Even if you couldn’t be there in person, I felt the love. I can’t wait to celebrate with all of you.

Rachel
