February Reading – Finding the Balance

Lately, I’ve been trying to balance reading fluffy fun stuff on my Kindle and reading more literary pieces on paper. It’s been working so far and I’ve been able to read a few of the books that have been on my shelf for the last few years. This is not a hard and fast rule, because I don’t do well with rules set by myself for myself. It’s more of an attempt toward variety.

14 books is still a lot of books. I tend to absolutely devour the Kindle books. I’m finding that reading on paper takes me quite a bit more time. Also, I’ve been trying to “interact” with the texts a bit more. So when I read a paper copy, I’m highlighting and tabbing and making notes. It’s a much more active style of reading. But I’ve found some new favorites this month.

I think Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett is a good comp title for my current novel in revisions.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig was a wonderful book that I was reading at just the right time.

Piranesi by Susanna Clark was a fascinating magical realism that made me want to start over right away to see if I could follow the lines of the mystery a bit more clearly.

Then of course, I had a bunch of romance novels and a couple of graphic novels. Overall, a very satisfying reading month.
