April Reading Roundup

How are we already done with April?! That felt like the fastest, busiest month I’ve had in a while. Did it stop me from reading? No. If anything, the busier I get, the more likely I am to hide in a book series for as long as possible.

This month I found a new series to giggle over. The covers made the hubs roll his eyes and sigh so hard I thought he would say something. But then he asked if I was having fun and my “yes” made him nod and not say much more.

I read almost the entirety of the Brash Brothers series by Jenna Myles this month. And I had a blast!

The series follows, you guessed it, a group of brothers (both by blood and circumstance). Former gang members turned billionaires (cue the obnoxious laughter from me) these 10 brothers are finally finding the love they’ve craved since they were orphaned and abandoned children. The brothers formed their family after meeting in a group home for troubled foster children.

I loved this series because it touched a lot on mental health, dealing with trauma, and moving on from a hard past. While sometimes the endings felt a bit anticlimactic for supposedly “dangerous” men — there was very little actual danger in the books even for those who were on the run from dangerous people…you know me, I love me a damsel-in-distress that learns to take care of herself — I loved how slowly each of the relationships developed. Their relationships, for the most part, felt realistic and well-paced. There are a couple of the brothers who get a bit obsessive, but it becomes a point of discussion in the books as well which is refreshing.

Most of all, I loved all the female main characters in these books. They are a mix of headstrong, broken, gentle, quiet, and sure of themselves. The only part of this series that felt unrealistic is the fact that they are all straight men…like…not even a bi-questioning one in the lot. I’m not sure why that bugs me so much, but it just feels like a statistical improbability. It’s not enough for me not to like the series though.

The series isn’t overly spicy either, which I appreciated. Intimacy had a purpose in the books and it furthered their relationships. It felt more like a slow burn feel rather than a 5 chili pepper feel. Don’t let the shirtless and smoldering covers fool you.

It took me like 2 days to read each of these so really quick and simple reads. Very entertaining. Like I said, I read fluff more furiously when I’m stressed and busy. The last book is about the “oldest brother” and the one who brought them all together…and is almost 600 pages…so it’s taking me a bit longer. So far my favorite was Micah, which is hilarious because he’s probably not the brother I’d think would have a shirtless photo…seems more of a Nick or Colton move to me…

I hope you also had some fun reading this month. Let me know if you have a series you devoured.
