Best gifts for the writer in your life

There are a few things better to a writer than feeling supported by your loved ones. I figured I’d give a little breakdown on what your writer might be into. If you’re a writer, maybe treat yourself this time?

BUY THEIR BOOK!

If the writer in your life is a published author, traditionally or self-published, the best gift you can give is to buy their book. It shows you support them, it gives that little spark of joy book sales give, AND you’re helping them keep their dream alive. Bring that book to them and have them sign it. It never gets old.

Better yet, read their book and tell them what you loved about it!

Notebooks

For some reason, we love a notebook. Pretty notebooks, plain notebooks, small notebooks, big notebooks. You cannot go wrong with giving us something that we can carry around and do our thing whenever inspiration strikes.

A timer

This is a little bit of a more “practical” gift. I am personally a huge fan of the Pomodoro method for getting some work done. 25 minutes of work and a 5 minute break. I have a cute little timer I can flip to different amounts of time – from 3 minutes to 30 minutes. From a simple timer to a fancy digital one, sometimes we just need that extra help to stay on task (or the reminder to take a break).

Snacks and Caffeine

The inspired writer will forget to take breaks and will forget to eat. Get some easy to eat snacks for your writer, like almonds or popcorn or chocolates. We love a great treat, so any form of their favorite candy is a great option. Avoid messy snacks that would leave crumbs or smudges on the keyboard. Coffee or tea is another great option for your writer. Keep that caffeine coming and we’ll keep churning out those words. (Although, their writing may become more and more unhinged because of it.)

Books

I know you’re thinking, “they already have so many books. I’m sure they’re sick of getting books for everything.” NO! No no no no. We are not sick of getting books EVER. Reading books is a part of the writing process. We need the creative fuel. Better yet, find some books around the same theme or genre as their project. We’re always looking for comparison titles.

Don’t be afraid to get your writer the things you know they use every day. They will love your attention to their dreams.

Happy holidays to you all!

Rachel
