What a difference a week makes

As of today, I’ve written nearly 10k in this new project. After not having written any fresh words in months, this feels wild. This is very much a zero draft where I’m just telling myself the story (and the two lucky friends who have it thrown at them). I’ve been missing descriptions of places and people, but overall I’m having a blast.

The key difference is writing what’s in my brain today. I’m not forcing myself to sit and “work” on a project. I’m letting myself be creative how I want to be creative. The writing is definitely not literary by any means but it fits pretty well with how I’ve written my past Radish novels—quick and free.

Right now the only purpose I have for this story is to entertain myself and the other two people reading it. I’m not worried about theme or pacing or world-building. I’m just…writing. I think that’s what’s so freeing about it. It’s not going over something for the 6th time trying to get it right.

I love my other projects. I am not giving up on them AT ALL. But, I think taking a break is a good thing sometimes. This has also reminded me that writing doesn’t have to be a big undertaking. It’s still a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun.

We’ll see how long this lasts, but for now, I’m happy to go along for the ride.

Happy Writing!

Rachel
