The Artist’s Way – Let’s start!

Hey All!

I’m starting The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron this week.

What is it?

The Artist’s Way is a 12-week recovery intensive to heal creativity block. It’s not just for writers but for any creative! If you think you’re not creative, you’ve just shoved your inner child so far down that the creativity is blocked. I mean, think about when you were a kid…coloring was the best, you didn’t worry about your stories being silly, and craft time was awesome.

It’s based on two main tasks every week – Morning Pages and Artist Dates.

Morning Pages are 3 pages of stream of consciousness journaling every morning. Like other journaling, it’s meant to create space in your mind and offer a place for worries and such.

Artist Dates are a once a week outing to get to know your creative side (like regular dating). They’re meant to not be judged for what you find fun. Julia makes a point to stress that these don’t have to be costly or even serious. She says a trip to the dollar store to buy silly things is just as relevant as a visit to the museum.

I’ll keep you all up to date on how it’s going.

Happy Writing!

Rachel

P.S. My editing is still going very very slowly, but we’re doing good.
