Rest and Recovery – short break from The Artist’s Way

We knew it was going to happen eventually. I didn’t do week 9…so I’m going to do it this week. I promise. I just really needed a week to not have to worry about additional “to-dos.”

I still don’t feel very creative. However, I’m feeling way better in every other way and I’m convinced that is part of the battle. Don’t get me wrong, I have a ton of ideas for writing and art and such, but I’m still having a problem with the doing portion. I haven’t sat down to write in a long time (there was a brief burst of lunch-break writing for a couple days but that’s it). Not with dedicated writing time like I used to. I think I just need to put it as a commitment in my schedule and stick to it. That’s how I’m getting back into movement as well – scheduling myself into exercise classes so all I have to do is show up and do the thing.

That’s what I’m going to try to do this month — schedule writing sessions and stick to them.

What else is going on?

The weather is so so nice right now. It’s that beautiful sunny and not too hot with a light chilly breeze. I did some volunteer work at a community farm the other day and got sunburned (even though I’m trying really hard not to get weird tan lines this year). The work was hard but it felt really good to spend those few hours outside. I was WIPED when I got home though. Took me a full day to recover, which I think was just because I didn’t drink enough water or something.

I’ve been on a binge of Mariana Zapata novels again…they’re just so good! She’s the queen of slow burn, grumpyxsunshine, enemies to lovers, everything I love in a book. So far “Wait for It” and “All Rhodes Lead Here” have been my favorites this year. I really need to get back to reading my physical TBR, but I’m just having way too much fun avoiding it. 😛

I’ve definitely been on a quantity over quality marathon, but I’ve read some really great books in the last year as well. For me, the entertainment value is just as important as the artistic value when it comes to books…for some genres more than others.

That’s really all I’ve got this week. I haven’t touched my edits in a couple of months now and I’m starting to feel guilty again, even though nobody is really waiting on me for this. Hopefully I can kick that feeling and work on something…anything!

Happy Creating!

Rachel
