Work-in-Progress, Writing Process

Nanowrimo Eve

Twas the day before Nano and all through the house the writer is panicking over which story to write.

Okay, I’m not really panicking. More like I’m really trying to convince myself that I will finish the draft that is in progress instead of following the shiny new idea that’s been percolating. But that’s just it, it’s only percolating. I have no plot only vibes. So, it will stay on the Pinterest board a bit longer.

What I’ll be writing for NaNoWriMo is currently titled “Saving the Music” and is a contemporary romance. Here’s the summary:

Off the field and into the music.

Amelia Russo lives for the soccer season. With her widower father as the soccer coach, it’s a 24/7 lifestyle. The high school team is about to enter their season chasing a 4th State Championship title, and Mia is certain it rests on her shoulders. Add on Senioritis and a brutal class schedule, Mia’s stress is threatening to push her over the edge. Her father’s mantra of “calm and focused” no longer resonates as she finds her grades suffering. Mia believes her troubles start and end with her Choir class and the outcast, Max Sparks. Max may be a superstar in the Choir room, but rumors float through the halls as to why he’s so aloof and quiet. When Max takes an interest in Mia’s disconnect to music, Mia takes an interest in Max’s multihued personality. Will Mia connect to her vibrant self or will the music fall flat?

I’ve been working on this project and plotting it for almost a year. I’ve already got about 25k in it, so rounding it out during Nano’s expected 50k would be very advantageous.

I hope to get this one onto the same platform as my last romance. Hopefully, I can get this draft wrapped up and get some edits done in December so you all can start reading it. I’m definitely having a blast writing it so far. That bodes well for the Nano month.

To all of you participating in NaNoWriMo this year, I wish you the best!

Happy Writing!

Rachel
