NaNoWriMo – Week One Done

Well, week one of NaNoWriMo is in the bag. Am I on track? No. Am I okay with that? Yeah actually.

I am finding that this year I’m quite happy with writing any number of words daily. Some days I’m only hitting about 150-300 words, other days I’m cranking out nearly 2k. It depends on my scene and how much mental energy I have left from the day. All I’m looking for from this year’s Nano is to get back into the habit of writing and make some good progress on this project.

Where am I struggling?

Right now, the biggest struggle for me is to get myself to sit down and write. Some days I start and can barely get words on the page. On other days I know exactly what I’m going for and the word count seems easy. My main goal is to write something every day. Even if it’s only a sentence or two, or even if it’s just figuring out what scene is next in my outline.

Where am I succeeding?

I think I’m doing really well at not just writing words to get the word count. I’m still really thinking through the characters, the events, and the responses. Having a loose outline is really helping me out. I know where I need to get to.

I’m very excited to keep going with this book as I get closer to the big fallout. This book is fun to write and keeps taking me back to my sports days.

Happy Writing!

Rachel
