Life, Updates, Writing Process

Inspiration is not the problem. I need to get back to my routine.

There’s a lot of chat in the writing circle that you can’t just sit around and wait for inspiration to hit you. Creativity loves a moving target. If you’re already creating, the inspiration with find you. The real problem is motivation.

I’ve had inspiration for three different projects in the last few weeks, but I’ve found that I just don’t have the motivation to sit down to write them. I’ve planned some of them, which some may argue is just as much writing as putting pen to paper. But I don’t have the words for the scenes.

I can see how some stuff will play out, but as soon as I sit down to write it out I hit a massive block. Writer’s block? Maybe. Right now I think I’m just out of the habit.

I thought maybe I would do Camp NaNoWriMo to get myself back into the swing of things, but I’m already a couple weeks behind and I hate the thought of being behind. Maybe I need to enlist my writer friends to sit down with me a couple times per week and just write something…ANYTHING!

In a little more than a month, my fantasy novel goes to an editor. After the editor is done with it, I’ll be knee-deep in rewriting to get that puppy ready. I’d love to get something started or planned so I have a fun free-writing project to hop back and forth from.

To be honest, I’m kind of just lost when it comes to my writing. I just need to sit down and get back to my process. Even if it’s just five minutes a day at this point. I’m sure I’ll be back on track in no time.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Be careful you aren’t turning it into too much of a chore! With my own motivation issues, the more I tell myself I “need” to do something or I “should” do something, the harder it is to get motivated to do it. Focus instead on the joy you get out of writing and why you keep telling stories.
