Writing Process

Writing Just for Me

Something clicked last week. I decided to write what I wanted for as long as I could. What resulted was about 7,000 words over the next five days on a new project. I’d written a summary for this one thinking I’d work on it “when I had time” or “after my edit was done.” That restriction was causing a bottleneck in my creative writing life. So, I let it go.

I’m using this project, which will remain unnamed, to get back in touch with what I love about writing. Free-writing without a real plan, sending it to friends after each chapter to keep me moving, and using it as an escape. I’m writing this just for me. I want to read it, so I’m writing it.

I don’t know why it’s this project, but I’m so glad it’s coming as freely as I liked. I’m sure I’ll hit roadblocks in the plot (seeing as I don’t have much of one quite yet). The style of writing right now is a lot like my NaNoWriMo projects of the past. I’m just…going with it. Rushing out a hundred words here and there just to keep the juices flowing. Sometimes I can sit down and write thousands at once, sometimes it’s just a paragraph or two. It’s freeing.

I don’t have a moodboard for this one, or a playlist, or any of the usual “vibe” type of thing I usually do. The only thing I will say is that it’s inspired by “Under the Oak Tree” by Suji Kim.

I’m enjoying the free-flowing nature of this. I am making no promises for it to be finished or available anywhere. I’m just simply…writing it.

Happy Writing!

Rachel
